Salary Range: $60,000 - $72,000

The University of St. Thomas has provided a salary range that represents its good faith estimate of what the University may pay for the position at the time of posting. The specific salary offered will be determined based on factors such as the qualifications of the selected candidate, departmental budget, internal salary equity considerations, and available market information.

JOB SUMMARY

The Manager of Communications and Marketing assists with the development and execution of a comprehensive communications strategy for University Advancement (UA), which includes Development, Legacy Giving, Donor Relations and Corporate and Foundation Relations. This position plans and implements strategies that excite audiences about the potential for St. Thomas, increase comprehensive philanthropy, and enhance partnerships with donors, corporations, and foundations through strategic storytelling, stewardship, and communications. This includes oversight and tactical execution of integrated multi-channel campaigns and communications projects.

Reporting to the Director of Communications and Marketing, this role is part of the central University Advancement team. The position works closely with colleagues across University Advancement, Marketing, Insights and Communications (MIC), the President’s Office, and the university’s academic and administrative units to coordinate communications and marketing activities, identify the right stories in support of strategic objectives, track progress against goals, and share insights and learnings. This position will not have direct reports but may assist in the development and management of student interns.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS

1. Communications and Marketing Plan Execution and Project Management

  • Serves as the primary communications partner for Development, Parent and Family Giving, Legacy Giving and Corporate and Foundation Relations.
  • Leads the production of UA print and digital collateral, including proposals, solicitations, invitations, newsletters, emails and videos.
  • Collaborates with key partners and stakeholders to develop content and key messages.
  • Writes creative briefs to engage internal creative resources (e.g., art directors, copywriters, videographers, photographers).
  • Reviews, edits, and approves materials produced by the MIC creative team and UA staff, including gathering feedback from key stakeholders.
  • Tracks projects in central project management tools.

2. Content Strategy and Creation

  • Writes copy and content for internal and external communications; drafts copy for collateral produced by MIC.
  • Designs digital assets and print collateral in Canva, as appropriate.
  • Builds strong relationships with key university personnel (e.g., gift officers, deans, professors, administrators, subject matter experts, etc.) to facilitate story, idea and information sharing.
  • Manage and approve Parent and Family Giving content on the St. Thomas parent portal.

3. Communications and Marketing Strategic Planning

  • Assists Director in planning strategic communications for University Advancement.
  • Learns and understands the donor funnel and UA objectives.
  • Identifies and prioritizes key audiences, objectives, programs, and differentiated messaging.
QUALIFICATIONS :

Minimum Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in public relations, marketing, journalism and/or mass communications, or a relevant field 
  • 5 years of professional strategic communications experience
  • Experience working with a cross functional team
  • Demonstrated experience managing multiple projects simultaneously with ability to meet deadlines

An equivalent combination of education and experience from which comparable knowledge and skills have been acquired may be substituted.
